  • The nature of our business (preserving the natural resource, trees) is inherently Eco-friendly.
  • We do not spray any of the preservative which eliminates the use of large amounts of plastic for covering windows and protecting plants.

Bruce Watkins

Founder, President and CEO

Bruce started the initial version of the company (West Bay Wood Care) in 1987 while attending the University of California at Berkeley (Cal). His major was Bio-Resource Science and he was perusing a medical career at the time. He spent five years working for the Cal Football Team as a student trainer and assistant to the training staff. For two years during the summers between attending school he worked as a deck carpenter building high-end decks. He became a highly skilled deck builder and this is where he got the idea to start a deck preserving business.
Since then, Bruce has combined his skills in the field of deck construction with the knowledge he has gained from observing what makes decks fall apart to build one of the most well-rounded deck (and any exterior wood) preserving companies in existence.

Kasia Watkins

Business Development and Accounting

Kasia joined Cal Preserving in 2009 after completing her education and earning a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland. Cal Preserving is incredibly lucky to have her both assisting in the day-to-day operations of the company as well as working diligently on business development tasks. With her engineering background and meticulous attention to detail, has helped Cal Preserving in making changes that will enable the company to become even more efficient and grow in size.

Garrison (Gary) Hills

Lead Estimator and Sales Assistant

Gary joined Cal Preserving in 2006 as a field technician. His previous experience is as a carpenter working with a general contractor. After spending five years in the field working for Cal Preserving and learning the ins and outs of our process, we brought him into the office to assist with estimating and sales. While working as an estimator, Gary has gained extensive knowledge about our company and is indispensable part of the business development.

Our Technicians

All of our employees are on payroll and covered by workers’ compensation and liability insurance. They have worked for Cal Preserving for many years.
They are very hard working, knowledgeable, friendly and caring.
