Professional Siding Restoration
Bay Area’s Most Trusted Wood Care — Since 1989
Restore, protect, and extend the life of your siding without costly replacement. Licensed (#711308) · Bonded & Insured · Satisfaction Guaranteed.
At Cal Preserving, we know your home’s wood siding is one of the first things people notice. In the Bay Area’s climate, sun exposure, coastal moisture, and everyday environmental wear can gradually fade finishes, dry out wood, and lead to deterioration.
Our wood siding restoration process brings your siding back to life with professional cleaning, repairs when needed, careful preparation, and high-quality staining and preservation. The result is siding that looks refreshed, protected, and ready to withstand the Bay Area’s changing conditions.
For more than 35 years, we’ve restored and protected wood siding across the Bay Area. Our team understands how coastal fog, intense sun exposure, and seasonal moisture affect exterior wood surfaces, and we tailor our restoration approach to match your home’s needs.
We use high-quality stains and proven products designed specifically for exterior wood siding. Each product is selected based on the wood type, its condition, and the level of exposure your home receives.
Great siding restoration starts with the right preparation. We carefully clean the wood, perform repairs when needed, sand where appropriate, and apply stain evenly so your siding looks beautiful and remains protected for years.
We believe in clear communication from start to finish. Our team explains the restoration process and keeps you informed throughout the project so you know exactly what to expect.

We have a house with redwood fences and Ipe siding on the house and needed to refinish and restain all the wood last fall. We obtained a number of quotes. Cal Preserving was not the least expensive of the quotes but I was able to speak to the owner, Bruce, and he explained their process of wood preservation and staining in great detail. Their process made the most sense to me so we chose them do the work. They did all the work needed and did a great job! Everything looked great and the wood looked like new when they finished. Over the following winter and the rains and direct exposure to the elements, we noticed some issues with our wood siding and I contacted Bruce again. He was very responsive and came to our home for an inspection. He was very thoughtful in his evaluation of the issues and he presented us with a number of possible options to correct the problems. I was very impressed that he took the time to think about all the possible options for us as I don't think a lot of other contractors would do the same. We chose a solution that seemed to make the most sense to us and Bruce sent over one of his teams to do the work. This team of Cesar and Moses and Samuel were the best of all the teams we had met so far (all the Cal Preserving teams were great but I really enjoyed working with Cesar and Moses). Great with communication. Did great work and were very friendly and professional. Wood looks great again! With some of the modifications of their process, I am hopeful that the siding will resist the elements better than last year. Overall, I highly recommend Cal Preserving. Very responsive, friendly, and professional. Great owner with great crews leading to great results.Posted on samantha shubrookTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been using this business to maintain my hardwood decks for 15 years. Not only is Bruce a nice guy and easy to deal with, but my decks and hardwood deck furniture and patio have stayed in excellent condition. I have also used his subcontractors to paint and repair the exterior of my wooden Victorian house in San Franxisxo.Posted on Harry MorganTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have teak patio furniture which had become very bleached over time. I had refinished the ensemble myself in the past, but did not want the hassle again. These guys showed up on time (to include the estimator), did the work on-site, finished exactly when they said they would, and the result is stupendous. Completely value-added, and beat their own estimated price. Quick, easy. True professionals. Recommend to anyone. Junior, Noel and Gabriel have been a delight to work with. I have never seen such meticulous craftsmanship in a crew. They work together like a well-oiled machine and don’t miss a detail. All that, and they kept inside our budget. (Can’t beat that.) The cleanup was wonderful, right down to removing protective plastic on my yard lights and replacing the stones in our rock gardens. I’m keeping their names in my notes, and I hope you will keep them happy - I’ll be requesting them when we do our next maintenance. And I’ll be passing your company name on to my project-happy friends and neighbors. Thank you for your expertise and patience explaining the science of all this to me 🤓.

Yes. Our siding restoration services typically include professional cleaning, preparation, repairs when needed, and refinishing with high-quality stains or preservatives designed for exterior wood siding.
We commonly restore redwood, cedar, hardwood, and other natural wood siding found on Bay Area homes. Our team selects the appropriate cleaning and staining approach based on the specific wood species and condition.
Most wood siding benefits from maintenance every 3–5 years, depending on sun exposure, weather conditions, and the type of finish previously applied. Homes with heavy sun or coastal exposure may require maintenance sooner.
Yes. If damaged boards, trim, or other siding components need attention, we can perform repairs as part of the restoration process. Repair work is typically handled on a time-and-materials basis depending on the scope.
We use high-quality stains and wood preservatives designed for exterior siding. The specific product is chosen based on the wood type, existing finish, and exposure conditions to ensure the best protection and appearance.
Yes. Many of the stains we use come in a variety of natural tones that enhance the beauty of the wood while still allowing the grain to show through.
We typically apply one flood coat only. By “flood coat” we mean that we flood the wood cells with stain such that they will not take more without the stain sitting on the surface and leaving it shinny and sticky. There is a fine line with this and you may have smaller areas that are a bit shinny or sticky but that will fade and dry up in a short period if time.
In many cases, yes. If the wood structure is still sound, professional restoration can clean, repair, and refinish siding, significantly improving its appearance and extending its lifespan without full replacement.
Improper pressure washing can damage wood fibers, force water behind siding, or cause uneven cleaning results. Professional cleaning uses the correct pressure, technique, and solutions to protect the wood.
The timeline depends on the size of the home, condition of the siding, and weather conditions. Most siding restoration projects are completed within a few days, including preparation, repairs, and finishing.
For best results, siding restoration requires dry conditions so the wood can properly absorb stains and finishes. Weather conditions are carefully monitored when scheduling the project.
Drying times vary depending on the product and weather conditions, but most finishes require 24–48 hours before full exposure to moisture.
In many cases, restoration is far more cost-effective than replacement. If the wood structure is still solid, cleaning, repairing, and refinishing the siding can restore its appearance and extend its lifespan for many years.
Wood siding is durable, but the Bay Area’s mix of sun exposure, coastal fog, rain, and seasonal moisture can gradually wear down protective finishes. Catching these signs early can help prevent costly repairs and extend the life of your siding.
