This deck was new and never stained, but the other decks and associated wood at this property were older and had previously been stained. We stripped the old stain, cleaned the wood, lightly sanded and then preserved it. The siding on the structure behind the deck was stained by the contractor who built it with a semi-transparent stain that has more color than we recommend.
